Black Woman
by Stacey Muhummad
Out of Our Right Minds - Trauma, Depression and the Black Woman
is a short docu film from Award Winning Independent Filmmaker, Stacey M. of Wildseed Films / Intelligent Media Group.
This film explores Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome and and the experience
of trauma, and how the lives of Black women have been affected by these experiences.
Black women and men from all walks of life, speak openly and candidly
about depression, mental illness, anxiety, stress...why these discussions are considered taboo in the African American community..and
ways in which we begin to ... and continue to ... heal the wounds.
Grown In Detroit
by Mascha and Manfred Poppenk
This truly inspiring piece of film makes you want to
shed a tear from happiness and fury all in the same breath. The teachers at Catherine Ferguson Academy are rolling up their
sleeves and thinking out of the box to wake a resting city, while in the mean time bringing fresh organic produce and new
found employment to one of the most impoverished cities in the country.
The documentary Grown in Detroit shows how the students
at Catherine Ferguson Academy turned a small garden on their playground into a sizeable organic plot complete with apple trees,
horses, pigs, and goats. But this isn't your average school. Catherine Ferguson Academy is one of three schools left in the
country where teenage mothers can bring their kids to school with them. In a country where, according to the movie, 90 percent
of moms drop out of school because they get pregnant, there are far too few opportunities left for these young moms.

Poto
Mitan: Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy
by
Renée Bergan and
Mark Schuller
Told through compelling lives of five courageous Haitian women workers, Poto Mitan gives the global economy a human face. Each woman’s
personal story explains neoliberal globalization, how it is gendered, and how it impacts Haiti. And while Poto Mitan offers in-depth
understanding of Haiti, its focus on women’s subjugation, worker exploitation, poverty, and resistance demonstrates
these are global struggles.
